Straight-wall deer rifles are a growing category, and the .400 Legend is one of the newer cartridges for them. The Savage Axis 2 PRO is chambered for it and finished in Woodland camouflage.

The Axis 2 is a budget-friendly bolt action with Savage's AccuTrigger, which lets you adjust trigger pull. Many hunters buy one because it shoots well for the money. Store it unloaded and locked up, and keep the bolt out or a lock on when children are around. Take it to the range with a few boxes of your preferred load and learn where it hits before opening day.

The .400 Legend is a heavy bullet in a short case, meant for deer and hogs at moderate ranges. Ammunition is less common than .308 or .30-06, so confirm availability before you buy. In North Carolina, where many hunts happen in thick cover, it can do the job.

Woodland camo breaks up the outline in hardwoods and pines.

Be prepared to put a scope on it, sight in, and know your effective range.

New condition. It ships to a North Carolina FFL dealer for pickup and the background check.
