Tan and black spider webbing is the Roughtech look, and it makes a Tikka T3x Lite stand out. This rifle is chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum, a hard-hitting cartridge for elk, moose and long shots across open ground.

The Lite in the name points to a trimmer stock and lighter weight than a heavy-barreled target rifle. That helps on a mountain hunt or a long walk to a stand. The Roughtech finish is a tough coating designed to take abuse from rocks, brush and truck beds. Test your chosen ammunition before you trust it in the field or for carry, and stick with what runs well.

The T3x action has a reputation for smoothness and out-of-the-box accuracy, with a crisp trigger and a bolt that runs well. The .300 Win Mag has plenty of power and stays popular with hunters who take long trips out of state. It is more than you need for Carolina whitetail, but if you travel for big game, it makes sense.

Expect stout recoil, so use a good pad and practice with care. It ships to a North Carolina FFL dealer, where the background check is completed.
