Spiral fluting does two things: it shaves ounces and it gives a rifle a look nobody forgets. This Ruger American Gen II is chambered in.30-06 Springfield, with a 20-inch spiral-fluted barrel, a 4+1 capacity and a grey finish. It costs around seven hundred thirteen dollars.

The 20-inch barrel keeps the rifle handy in thick cover and when you climb into a stand. The.30-06 is a time-tested cartridge for deer, bear and elk, and factory loads are found everywhere. A shorter barrel gives up a little velocity, but at normal hunting ranges the difference matters little.

The Gen II American has an adjustable trigger and a three-lug bolt that works smoothly. At this price, it is one of the better values among bolt-action centerfires. Recoil in a light rifle with a.30-06 is noticeable, so a good pad helps.

Put a scope on it and sight in at one hundred yards. Learn how it shoots with the load you plan to hunt, and keep the bore clean. This rifle is new. It ships to a North Carolina FFL dealer of your choice for the background check and transfer.
