Benelli is best known for shotguns, but the Lupo is a bolt-action rifle with its own following. This model is chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, with a 26 inch barrel, a five-round magazine and a black finish.

A 26 inch barrel is long for a hunting rifle, which gives extra velocity and a long sight radius. The 6.5 Creedmoor performs well at that length, shooting flat and resisting wind. Five rounds in the magazine is a bit more than the usual four, which is welcome on a range day or during a hog hunt. A little practice every month beats a long session once a year.

Benelli built the Lupo with a modular stock and features to cut felt recoil. The bolt has a smooth feel, and the rifle seems made for shooters who like to place shots precisely. It carries on the heavier side because of the barrel, so plan on a sling for long walks.

For Carolina deer or a trip west, it is a capable rifle. It ships to a North Carolina FFL dealer, where the background check is completed at pickup.
