An inertia-driven semi-auto shotgun at a modest price is a good deal for a field gun. The Stoeger M3020 is a 20 gauge with a 26 inch barrel, a four-round capacity and a black synthetic stock.

The synthetic stock shrugs off wet weather, mud and knocks in a truck. A 26 inch barrel is a good all-around length for doves, quail and rabbits, and the 20 gauge keeps recoil modest. Inertia-driven actions are simple, and many owners praise how little maintenance they need. Always read the manual for recommended loads. Wipe it down after wet weather and store it dry, because North Carolina humidity is hard on steel.

For a first semi-auto or a youth gun, it is a sensible choice. The price is friendly for hunters watching their wallets. North Carolina has plenty of dove and quail hunting on leased land and public fields, and a 20 gauge handles it well.

Check before you buy. Clean it after use, and it will last. It ships to a North Carolina FFL dealer, where the background check is completed at pickup.
