Old-school looks on a modern pump make the Retrograde a fun gun to own. It is a Mossberg 500 in 12 gauge with a walnut stock, an 18.5" cylinder bore barrel with a matte blued finish, and a five-round capacity. It weighs 6.75 pounds.

The maker says its 500 shotguns are built with dual extractors, steel-to-steel lockup, twin action bars, and an anti-jam elevator. The top-mounted safety works from either side, which suits left and right-handed shooters alike. A recoil pad and a bit of range time go a long way toward comfortable shooting.

A cylinder bore barrel has no choke constriction, so it patterns wide with buckshot at close range and works well with slugs. At 18.5 inches the gun is short and quick, and it fits easily in a closet or behind a truck seat. That makes it a good home defense choice for people who prefer wood to plastic.

Walnut is warm and quiet in the hand, and it looks better than synthetic stocks as it ages. Keep it oiled and wipe off the humidity.

New condition. It ships to a North Carolina FFL dealer for pickup and the background check.
