The.38 Super has a following among 1911 shooters who like a flatter shooting, higher-capacity alternative to.45 ACP. This Iver Johnson 1911A1 Standard, model 1911A138, is chambered in it with a 5-inch barrel, fixed sights, a matte finish and wood grips.

The standard government-size 1911 layout is easy for 1911 owners to understand, and parts and holsters for the platform are easy to find. Fixed sights keep the pistol simple and rugged, so there is nothing to knock out of adjustment. Wood grips add a traditional look and a firm feel.

Ammunition for.38 Super is less common than 9mm or.45, so expect to pay a bit more and shop around. Many shooters who own one handload their ammo, but you can find factory loads from several makers. At around seven hundred forty dollars it is reasonably priced for a full-size 1911.

Check the pistol carefully when you receive it, and run a few magazines to see how it feeds with the ammo you plan to use. This pistol is new. It ships to a North Carolina FFL dealer of your choice for the background check and transfer.
