Pistol caliber carbines get attention for being fun and cheap to shoot, and the Armalite M-15 PDW takes that idea in a compact package. It is a black 9mm with an 8.5" barrel and a 33-round magazine.

With an 8.5-inch barrel and a 9mm cartridge, this is a pistol-style firearm built on the AR layout. Ammunition is cheap compared with rifle cartridges, so you can burn a lot of rounds at the range without much expense. Recoil is light too, which makes it good for a new shooter. Many North Carolina permit holders spend more on training than on the gun, and that is money well spent. Store it unloaded and locked when it is not on your body, especially if there are children in the house.

The 33-round magazine is a high-capacity option, so check your local laws before you buy. Thirty-three rounds is plenty for a day of steel plinking.

Armalite is a name with a long history in the rifle world. Because it is a pistol, remember the legal rules about how it can be configured and transported.
