Slovenian pistol makers do not get enough attention in the States, and Arex is one reason that should change. The Rex Zero is a 9mm with a 4.3" barrel, a 17-round magazine, and a two-tone nickel and black finish that stands out from the usual black polymer crowd.
Seventeen rounds in the magazine is the standard for a full-size duty-style 9mm, and the 4.3" barrel gives you good sight radius and velocity. That makes it a solid range pistol and a good home defense option for a nightstand. Many North Carolina permit holders spend more on training than on the gun, and that is money well spent.
The two-tone finish is more than looks. Nickel resists the sweat and humidity of a North Carolina summer better than bare steel does, and it is easy to wipe down after a day at the range. Still, clean and oil any pistol after you shoot it.
If you want something that is not the same Glock-style pistol as everybody else, the Rex Zero is worth a close look. Handle one at your dealer if you can.
